The Ball is Rolling

January 16th, 2006

Whether this was purely posturing or actual balls (that was for you Colbert!), I don’t care. Arlen Specter (R-PA) mentioned the words president, impeach and criminal prosecution in the same sound bite! Happened on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Optimistic? Maybe, but even the thought of Republicans even considering this is worth the excitement.

  1. Every year, that “Pavement reunion” rumor comes around, and every year it’s a load of hooey, right? Right. Until now. Because this time it’s true. Via an exclusive Rolling Stone interview, in a late-night call from Australia, Pavement guitarist Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg confirms that the Nineties’ finest indie rockers are finally going back to those gold soundz. “It’s been a long time coming,” Kannberg says. “I think in the back of our minds, we always thought we’d do something again. But we never really talked about it until the last couple of months. It’s come together fast.

    What is Specter’s agenda

Honestly, I think he was just stating the obvious. I don’t think there’s any agenda other than saving Republican votes this year. Any answer to that question other than impeachment or criminal prosecution would have caused an uproar. The only way out for him was the standard non-answer, “no comment until the investigation is over.” I’m suprised he answered the question the way he did (by not taking the non-answer), but it seems like Specter is an honest and straight-forward guy (the little I know about him). Hopefully that also means this won’t be a glossy coated investigation.
