Wow. Eric Alterman fired from MSNBC.com!
For those of you that have been reading End On End for awhile, you probably know that I am an avid reader of Eric Alterman’s Altercation column/blog (as well as his books.) Well, today (9/11 of all days!) Eric Alterman was fired from MSNBC.com. Wow.
According to Alterman, it may have been a political decision, but he can’t say for sure, since he’s never actually spoken with the site’s current editor-in-chief!
Whether my termination is, in fact, a product of a political decision at GE/NBC, which according to reports I read and gossip I hear, has lately taken a much firmer hand in guiding the content of both MSNBC and MSNBC.com, I have no way of knowing. I have never even spoken with the Web site’s current editor-in-chief, nor has anyone communicated with me beyond my immediate circle of editors.
There is good news, however, as Alterman will be moving Altercation to Media Matters for America, where he will continue the blog. Alterman says, “nothing at all will change insofar as the site’s content is concerned.” So prepare to point your browsers to the new URL starting next Monday!
It will be interesting to see if/who they replace Alterman with… will it be a more moderate “liberal”, a complete joke of a liberal, or someone of the right of the aisle. Stay tuned.
