Podcaster Leo Laporte, the everywhere man | Technology | Los Angeles Times.

I love Leo and have faithfully listened to This Week in Tech, This Week in Google, MacBreak Weekly, Tech News Today, and iPad Today for a couple years now.

I'm very happy to read about his success, as he's built his TWiT podcast network to be an almost $3 million a year business. He's definitely one of the good guys of tech and has earned his "President of the Internet" title.

If you are interested in technology (TWiT has many more shows than I've listed above) and haven't listened or watched (live.twit.tv), I highly recommend it -- Leo and crew have gotten me through many days of work.

Mogwai – “Scotland Shame” from Nathanaël Le Scouarnec on Vimeo.

Mogwai is releasing a live album (Special Moves), complete with a concert film titled Burning. I will definitely be checking it out, as Mogwai was amazing live when I saw them in Seattle.

Mayor Bloomberg on ‘Ground Zero Mosque’

August 25th, 2010
2499.

“But if we say that a mosque and community center should not be built near the perimeter of the World Trade Center site, we would compromise our commitment to fighting terror with freedom.

“We would undercut the values and principles that so many heroes died protecting. We would feed the false impressions that some Americans have about Muslims. We would send a signal around the world that Muslim Americans may be equal in the eyes of the law, but separate in the eyes of their countrymen. And we would hand a valuable propaganda tool to terrorist recruiters, who spread the fallacy that America is at war with Islam.

“Islam did not attack the World Trade Center-–Al-Qaeda did. To implicate all of Islam for the actions of a few who twisted a great religion is unfair and un-American. Today we are not at war with Islam—we are at war with Al-Qaeda and other extremists who hate freedom.

» Arron La » Android Revenue - Advanced Task Manager.

La has made over $80,000 to date from a 99 cent task manager app. Pretty impressive and shows you can make money from Android app development. Probably not to the level of iPhone app dev millionaires, but certainly enough to make it worthwhile.

Scientist Says He’s Found The Secret To Breeding Nicer Chickens – The Consumerist

Classic example of the food industry finding the wrong (and overly complex) answer to an easy question.

The factory farm/food industry asks: “How can we make these intensely packed in chickens not peck each other’s eyes out and kill each other?”

Their answer is to defy nature by selectively breeding “kinder” chickens, where as the simpler answer would be: “Maybe we shouldn’t pack them in so tightly.”

It’s highly honorable (sarcasm) that Perdue thinks this is the right way for chickens to live “longer and happier lives” too. How nice of them.

The Passion of David Bazan

The Passion of David Bazan

Bazan has been quiet for the last few years, battling his faith and even alcoholism. Now he is back and set to release a solo album on Barsuk. As an agnostic. Fascinating article that touches heavily on his battle with faith – one that I can very much relate to as a former Catholic (and long time altar boy.)
